A set of Nokian i3s with 3 seasons left and good date codes for $80. Score.

Kinja'd!!!

I also know a guy who can mount and balance them all for $60. Now to find an extra set of winters in the fall.

3707 is not a good date code, being 9 years old. Especially for 3 more seasons :(

Are Nokian’s summer tires any good? I know you mainly hear about their winter tires. Too bad the i3 is Chinese

The i3 got pretty good reviews, and apparently the 6 year rule is outdated. Since 2006 or so, tire manufacturers have recommended replacing their tires every 8-12 years. There are no signs of tread separation, sidewall bubbling, or loss of structure, so I am confident in the abilities of these tires for at least another year. They may have older date codes, but they’re still pretty much perfect in every other aspect. Even some of the little rubber “hairs” on the side are still intact.

His tires were recalled though, they were a know problem from right after production started. Jay Leno was nearly killed in one on a track.

Also, I as wrong about the recalled tires, they were 9 years old and no longer good according to Michelin though. And Porsche was sued and lost before because of a Carrera GT death.

I agree about the age. I personally believe that was the primary reason for the accident. That was my first thought as soon as I found out the age of the tires.
